WCW Nitro, the once famed WCW television show to outduel the likes of WWF's RAW, will be back as the company's main television show, Elon Musk announced in a press release. "The plan was to always reutilize Nitro as our staple weekly show, we're proud and honored that Fox Sports and FS1 have given us an opportunity to show that type of exciting product I know we can offer and also give wrestling fans a show they've been missing for two decades." Musk has been working rigorously to get the company up and running. Just over a month since the initial announcement that he purchased WCW, he says the roster is built and is ready to go. "We're ready to go, FS1 is ready to go. In fact, we're both so eager that Nitro is set to start airing next week. That's right, in the second week of April, WCW Nitro will be back on their air waves on Thursday night. Currently we'll be working with a one and half hour late evening time slot, but mark your calendars, the date is set. FS1 will be glad they took a chance on us, they won't be let down. Musk mentioned that the WCW roster is practically built and is full of great talent. Great veterans and hungry youngn's amongst each other. "We have a very solid foundation for the launch here, so much that I even decided to get a development partnership with F1RST WRESTLING. We have talent that will be heading there as well to get themselves ready to get called up. I told you, wheels we're rolling right away. No waiting around, we're going at it hard." Musk then went back to what he announced last month about kicking the company off with a tournament for the WCW World Heavyweight title. "Here's the plan, here's the scoop. 32 men, I told you we were going big. 32 men all in a tournament to kickoff the rebirth of WCW for the best championship belt in the business. Each week, matches will take place as part of the tournament. Match by match, winner by winner, all accumulating to the return of Slamboree where we'll crown our first champion since 2001. We all know four of the competitors as Scott Steiner, Rob Van Dam, Chris Jericho, and Brock Lesnar have been announced as part of the WCW family. The rest, heh, the rest you just wait and see. The bracket has been released, WCW will be on the airwaves, Nitro starts next week. The wait is over folks, get ready for the return of World Championship Wrestling.

[[[ WCW: A Modern Day TEW Saga - Monday, Week 4, March 2021]]] It's been a few weeks since Elon Musk announced he had purchases World Championship Wrestling from WWE Inc. and planned revive the once promising wrestling company. While not surprising, it's safe to say that Musk has been hard at work. Musk announced today five big announcements for the company. "We'll cut right to the chase. Everyone wants to know who to expect to be wrestling in WCW, who is coming back, who is new, who's jumping ships. I completely get the questions and excitement for that, however my response is this. Way back when, there wasn't a thing called online dirt sheets, there was a time when surprises and anticipation wasn't spoiled. I fully intend to bring that back into our world here." Musk mentioned at a press conference. "With that said, here's what I will do for everyone. I am going to tell you five things here, and five things only. Four of them are talent who have signed on to WCW and plan to help make WCW what it once was before. First, Big Poppa Pump himself, Scott Steiner, will be back. He played a huge part of WCW's success and when he reached out, I felt like he still lives and breathes WCW." "Second. I couldn't believe this guy has still been a free agent, although he loves working the independent scene so I get it. RVD, Rob Van Dam is part of the WCW family now. Couldn't be more excited. He brings tons of charisma and excitement." "Third, while I mentioned I am a big fan of this business, we have to remember it's just that, business. So I made a business decision and lured a star away to come home. What is WCW without Chris Jericho himself? Jericho is back to help lead the charge for us." "Fourth, and this is the biggest. I have the one part of me that thinks I should hold this one back, biggest, it's huge but I am not an idiot, not promoting this guy would be one of the dumbest things to do for marketing purposes. Forget the next big thing, he is one of if not thee BIGGEST thing in our business today, that's right, Brock Lesnar has decided to put his mark down in WCW. He was the guy I wanted, I know he has loyalty elsewhere and I will never stomp on loyalty or shame him for it. But he knew and I knew we had a huge opportunity here and I am pleased he is part of the WCW family as well." Musk didn't stop there with the announcement of those four superstars. He gave a potential look at what to expect when shows and events start taking place. "We're going to jump right into it. We have talent that we have signed that can work right now or they may have to wait out their notices to their current employers. We're very very close to green lightening everything. We are in the works with television talks but I won't go further into that. But know this, like I said, we're gonna get things going from the get go and not enter in slow. Right off of the bat, it'll be a tournament, a big one, and the winner of that will get what it's all about...the WCW World Heavyweight title. You already know four of the competitors, the rest you won't know until you hear their music hit. That's all I've got, I've already spoken too much and given out more than I would've wanted, get ready people!" Musk finished with a grin on his face. Given the signing of Lesnar and Jericho, it's clear to see Musk isn't afraid to throw some of his billions around to get the product he wants. Stay tuned for more as we report on when a television deal comes into play and when dates start to get set in stone. Elon Musk purchases rights to wcw from wweAUSTIN (Tex.) - World Championship Wrestling is back! Formerly one of the top promotions in the world, WCW has been closed since being purchased by Vince McMahon (WWE) back in May 2001 and has now been purchased by billionaire Elon Musk. The news may come as a shock as it wasn't even known that WWE Inc. was looking to sell the defunct promotion, although it sounds like they might not have been the ones looking. Another shocker was the fact that the buyer was Musk himself.
"I called him up (Vince McMahon) and I told him I wanted it. I wanted it all. At first he wasn't interested as predicted, but after throwing some numbers around I was pleased that we were finally able to come to an agreement" Musk said in a telephone call. No one would have guessed this day would come, let alone Elon Musk having interest in itself? "As busy as I am I must admit I have been contemplating this for many many months now. I just couldn't tolerate the itch anymore and knew that the best time to make a move was now. I have been a closet wrestling fan all of my life. Once WWE purchased WCW back in 2001 I felt like it kind of dampened the whole industry. I am a fan first and I think I can speak for a lot of fans that there's a lot of mismanaged talent and stories done by the big promotions and if there's a chance to do it the right way, for the fans, I will do my best to deliver that." Musk elaborated on some of his plans in the upcoming months, "It's going to be very busy, very time consuming. We purchased the name, the brand, the prestige. That's it. Nothing else. We'll need to go out and get staff, talent, equipment, production, everything you name it. At this point, anyone who isn't tied down to a contract with another company will be on our radar. We want to deliver a product that the fans want, enjoy, and deserve." WCW was red hot back when talent came over from WWE (WWF at the time) and shifted to the debut of the New World Order taking on WCW as a whole. At one point the company was leading the ratings war and had the industry by the neck, king of the mountain. Musk acknowledges that there's history there and a lot of former WCW employees are available to return, "Per many of us wrestling fans, I loved the old WCW. There were a lot of huge stars at the time with Hogan, Nash, Hall, Flair, Sting and I could keep going on. Look, WCW hasn't been around since 2001. It's now 2021, we have to take in the reality that every single person involved in WCW back then has aged 20 years, that's basic simple math. If we think they can bring significant value and help our rise and rebirth, then it's safe to say they'll strongly be considered." When we have more information on this breaking news we will deliver it. It'll be interesting to see how this purchase and re-opening will affect the wrestling world and other promotions themselves. WWE is still #1 in the pack, however the majority of their talent is secured through exclusive right written contracts so don't look for much of their talent to make a jump to WCW. It could mean big changes for AEW, New Japan, IMPACT, ROH, and some of the other top independent promotions. One thing is clear, with Elon Musk as it's owner, the sky's the limit for WCW. |
